- Christopher Bowman
-
- Christopher Bowman was born in Hollywood, California on March 30, 1967. He was known internationally as "Bowman the Showman." As a skater, Christopher became one of the most electric, mesmerizing men's singles skaters in history. For ten years he was in the spotlight of United States and World figure skating as a two time United States National Champion and the winner of five United States National Championship Medals and two World Championship Medals as well as being a former Junior Worlds Champion and two time Untied States Winter Olympic Team Member. Even though Christopher was one of the most controversial athletes in American skating history, he had the biggest fan base of all National Winter Olympians.
- Christopher Bowman was a child actor who starred in commercials, movies and television shows. He is most often remembered for his portrayal of Benjamin in the popular television series "Little House on the Prairie." After a very successful competitive skating career, Christopher once again found himself at home in front of a camera as he has embarked on a natural career of television commentating.
- Recently, Christopher was still a fun-loving guy and serious about his sport. He was a well known coach, choreographer and sports commentator and had recently returned to acting. He had a role as an assistant coach in the upcoming Brian De Palma-directed movie "Down and Distance" starring Gary Busey.
Bowman is survived by his parents and a daughter with his former wife, Annette Bowman.

19 Feb 2010 – from Carol
Christopher brought so much joy and laughter--I have been crying from laughing at his skating on online videos--thank God for the technology so that we can preserve all he brought to us. My heartfelt sympathy for his addictions and the effects on his life--I have had to separate from a love relationship with an addict and the pain from the effects of addiction is almost more than I can bear. But, for Christopher, I have much gratitude at what he was able to give. Peace and love to you.

He was a great skater and a great coach. I was watching the Olympics and wondered what had happened to him. I am SO SAD because I REALLY LOVED to watch him skate and he seemed to have a great time doing it. To his family, you have my deepest sympathy and I will say a special prayer for him tonight. Christopher no matter what, you will ALWAYS be great to me.

Dear Christopher, Be at Peace, finally. Watch over us. Find Nelson, your Dad and Eileen, my Mom, who have passed over the bridge. Spend Eternity safe in the arms of Our Lord, who is Our Shepherd. Send us messages spiritually. We are listening and we miss you.

It warms my heart to know that your daughter has found this place, where so many have shown their love for you. Now she'll know that you loved her everyday of her life and that love is still alive and didn't stop when you passed away so suddenly and tragically. You can rest comfortably knowing your daughter knows how much you loved her. Christopher darling, you were truly the love of my life, and I was a daily witness to the love you had for your sweet daughter and how deeply you were hurt from ...

Joyce (I've been out of loop for over six years);
My deepest regrets over yours and our loss. I got to know Chris from competitions around the states. I was worried after the US Olympic team membership because at times when I did see him, some of that twinkle in his eye was missing. I saw it back when he started teaching but over time it was missing again.
His coach struck me at times, more worried about how people viewed him rather than what was going on with Chris's attitude at times. Carro...

27 Jan 2009 – from Lynda Mitchell
My 21 year old son is a skater, turned actor. When he was 5 he LOVED Christopher Bowman. He wrote him a letter that I had to help him with because he was only in kindergarten. He gave Christopher the letter when we saw him skating in Dallas. Christopher, who was about to take the ice stuck it in his skate bag. That evening, he actually called my son and talked to him on the phone. I was so shocked, that the "bad boy of skating" took time out of his busy schedule to do that. He was awesome...

I Miss You So Much!
I miss your smile when I'm feeling down, and how only your wit and charm could turn around my frown.
I miss our summer adventures around the lake, knowing that our hearts felt feelings that could never be fake.
I miss our tennis matches and swims, plus that our love wasn't the based on a whim.
I miss our quiet movie nights and long talks, and most especially our long moonlit walks.
These things I miss especially the most, so to your memory I will always toast....

Sympathy eCards
17 Feb 2010 – Jennifer sent this sympathy ecard and wrote:
Hi
I am a skating fan from way back, my height in the late 80's through mid 90's. I had known of some of Christopher's problems, but I was shocked and greatly saddened to just find out about his death 2 years ago. The Olympics triggered my "what are they up to" and googling Chris left me in tears 3 days ago and I can't shake this feeling. He was such a great skater and his connection to his audience was special. I don't know if you will receive this, but I just felt the need to try and connect in some fashion to someone who was with him in the end. I would like you to know that he is still remembered and I will never forget how he charmed me. I hope you and your family are well.
Jennifer
